Essential Maintenance Hacks

Your bathroom should be a place to unwind and recharge. But like any room in your house, it needs a little upkeep to keep it functioning smoothly and avoid expensive repairs. Here at SNT Plumbing & Heating, we're the experts at keeping bathrooms beautiful and functional.  Follow these simple maintenance tips to ensure your bathroom stays free from plumbing problems:

Drain Defence

  • Hair today, gone tomorrow (hopefully):  Hair, soap scum, and other debris can easily clog your drains. Use a drain guard or strainer to prevent hair from entering the pipes in the first place. Regularly use drain cleaners to break down organic matter that can cause blockages.
  • The natural approach:  For a natural cleaning solution, try the baking soda and vinegar method. Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain followed by a cup of hot vinegar. The fizzing action helps loosen debris.

Shower Power

  • Clean Shower head, Happy Shower:  Hard water deposits can clog your shower head, reducing water pressure and spray effectiveness. To clean, simply detach the shower head and soak it in a vinegar solution. For stubborn mineral buildup, a soft brush can be used.
  • Squeegee Away the Residue:  After each shower, take a minute to squeegee the shower walls and door. This removes excess water droplets that can lead to soap scum buildup and mildew growth.

Keeping Your Fixtures Gleaming

  • Mineral Buildup Buster:  Similar to shower heads, taps can accumulate mineral deposits. To maintain smooth operation and a sparkling finish, wipe down your tap with a damp cloth regularly. For stubborn mineral buildup, use a vinegar solution or a limescale remover.

Keeping Your Tiles Sparkling

  • Grout:  Keeping your grout clean and free of mould is essential for maintaining a healthy and aesthetically pleasing bathroom. Regularly clean your grout with a mixture of warm water and baking soda or a commercial grout cleaner. For stubborn mould or mildew, consider using a bleach solution (ensure proper ventilation when using bleach).

Leak Elimination

  • Spot the Signs Before Trouble Starts:  Keep an eye out for any signs of leaks, such as water damage around the base of your toilet, sink, or shower. Even a small leak can cause significant damage over time. If you suspect a leak, don't hesitate to contact a professional plumber for immediate repair.

Prevention is Key

By following these simple yet effective maintenance tips, you can significantly reduce the risk of costly repairs and ensure your bathroom remains a haven of comfort and relaxation for years to come.
